This detailed watercolor and ink work depicts a soldier of the Napoleonic era mounted on a spirited grey horse. The rider is dressed in a vibrant turquoise tunic with elaborate gold braiding, red breeches, and a distinctive tall shako with a yellow plume. The artist uses precise linework and washes of color to capture the intricate details of the military uniform and the powerful musculature of the steed.

The piece is presented on a clean white ground, typical of historical military uniform studies. It is housed in a simple gold-toned frame with a wide tan mat, keeping the focus entirely on the central figure.
