This energetic oil on canvas captures a traditional Spanish farmhouse (masia) perched atop a sun-bleached ridge. The artist employs a vibrant, Impressionistic approach, using quick, spontaneous brushstrokes to render the wild grasses and scrub of the foreground. The warm, terracotta tones of the building’s roof contrast beautifully with the cool, airy blues of the expansive sky and the lush greens of the valley below.
The work is signed “Berrocal” and dated ’81 in a bold, dark script in the lower-left corner. The technique is characterized by a confident use of light and shadow, particularly visible in the textured embankment on the left. Housed in a substantial dark wood frame with a wide, textured bronze-toned inlay, the painting shows some signs of age, including minor punctures in the canvas, which add to its rustic and authentic character.
