Michael Steinpichler’s Remembering (2014) is a meditation on memory, time and presence. The painting – a field of layered gestures and transparent colour – invites the viewer into a space where abstraction meets recollection. Ultramarine, sienna and pale grey blend in quiet tension, the contours of thought fade and feeling persists.

Oil on canvas, the work shows Steinpichler’s mastery of surface and light. The paint is applied in rhythmic layers – opaque and transparent – and glows from within. The atmosphere is meditative and architectural, the pulse of memory as it emerges and disappears in time.

In Remembering Steinpichler has achieved a perfect balance of emotion and form. The painting is not a story but an experience – a tone and texture elegy. It’s a proof of the artist’s ability to turn abstraction into a language of self, one that lingers long after you look away.

Michael Steinpichler
Austrian b. 1943

Michael Steinpichler (Austria, born 1974) is a painter who explores the fragile border between memory, time and abstraction. His work is rooted in the European tradition but personal. His paintings show human presence – blurred gestures, layered surfaces and shifting tones that are intimate and distant. Through subtle colour and texture he turns emotion into architecture and creates spaces to be quiet in.

His language is between control and spontaneity, order and chaos. The recurring themes of isolation, reflection and light are an ongoing search for meaning in a world that is transitory. Internationally exhibited Steinpichler’s work continues to be quiet and precise – a dialogue between what we see and what we feel, where abstraction is a vessel for memory and silence.
