29: Sylvette Sauzeau – Abstract Still Life, c. 1960s
Details
Signed lower left “Sauzeau”.
Sylvette Sauzeau’s Abstract Still Life (c.1960s) turns everyday objects into a song of color and shape. Rather than representing the world, the artist creates a visual rhythm — a conversation of curves and angles that balance each other. The palette of soft ochres, muted reds and slate blues is warm and introspective and the whole has a quiet musicality.
Done in the spirit of post war abstraction, the work straddles the line between figuration and design. The layered brushstrokes show an artist who is aware of harmony, texture and spatial tension. Each plane touches the next as if the still life was reimagined through the lens of memory and emotion.
In Abstract Still Life Sauzeau achieves a perfect balance of head and heart. The composition doesn’t speak of the objects themselves but of their resonance — how form, color and silence can express the poetry of perception.
