A Symphony in Color and Motion

In Flowing Spectrum, Paul Jenkins channels the power of pure pigment into a composition that feels both elemental and transcendent. Sweeping ribbons of watercolor—emerald green, amber gold, violet blue—surge across the paper like waves of emotion captured in motion. The fluidity of the lines, untethered by form or outline, speaks of intuition, of a painter listening closely to the inner currents of color and light.

The painting radiates movement without haste, a meditative energy that invites reflection. Jenkins’ mastery lies in restraint: letting the color speak, letting the paper breathe. Each hue blends into the next with an almost musical grace, echoing the artist’s belief in the emotional power of abstraction.

Where Color Becomes a Voice

This is not merely abstraction—it is revelation. In Jenkins’ hands, color becomes a voice, a language of inner landscapes. There are no figures, no symbols, and yet everything is present: gesture, presence, spirit. The work evokes a state of becoming—alive, radiant, and open.

Flowing Spectrum is a painting for those who find meaning in nuance—where intuition guides the eye, and where silence, movement, and color converge into something deeply human.

Paul Jenkins: Color as Revelation
American 1923-2012

Paul Jenkins was a pioneering American abstract expressionist whose work explored the emotional and spiritual properties of color. Born in Kansas City and later based in New York and Paris, Jenkins developed a unique method of controlled paint-pouring, guiding fluid pigment across the canvas using an ivory knife rather than a brush. Deeply influenced by Eastern philosophy, Goethe’s color theory, and the writings of Carl Jung, Jenkins saw painting as a process of inner exploration—each stroke an act of intuitive revelation.

Jenkins rose to international prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, exhibiting alongside figures like Rothko and Pollock, yet always charting his own poetic course. His “Phenomena” series, titled after meditative or psychological states, became a signature body of work. Through watercolor, oil, and ink, he achieved luminosity and movement that defied categorization—balancing gesture and stillness, chaos and harmony. Today, his work is held in major museums worldwide, including the Guggenheim, the Whitney, and Centre Pompidou.
