Details

Signed and dated ‘néjad 53’ (lower right); signed ‘Néjad’, titled ‘Lumières de Paris’ and dated ‘1953’ (on the reverse).

Executed in 1953, Lumières de Paris is a striking example of Nejad Devrim’s mature abstract language. Capturing the dynamic rhythm of the French capital, the composition features a complex, kaleidoscopic arrangement of interlocking geometric planes.

The canvas is dominated by intense shades of red, masterfully balanced by bold structural interventions of deep black, brilliant yellow, violet, and sharp accents of blue. This aesthetic reflects the profound influence of the post-war École de Paris on the artistic vision of Nejad Devrim.

The artwork showcases a confident application of oil with broad, decisive brushstrokes. These techniques give the flat geometric shapes a sense of depth and continuous movement.

The untouched original verso further enhances its historical appeal. It features the artist’s handwritten title and signature alongside an early typed archival label and three “Ex-libris Bruxelles” stamps that trace the painting’s historical journey.
