This striking watercolor on paper is a superb example of Ron Gorchov’s idiosyncratic approach to abstract geometry and spatial depth. The composition features his iconic “saddle” or “shield” motif, rendered in a translucent blue wash that frames two vibrant, vertical crimson strokes. The work is in good overall condition with the pigments remaining bright and well-preserved. The paper shows minor age-appropriate toning and very faint handling marks consistent with its history. The verso of the sheet exhibits some scattered light foxing and minor staining that does not affect the primary composition on the front.
