Antoine Blanchard

Antoine Blanchard (born Marcel Masson, 1910–1988) was a celebrated French painter renowned for his evocative and nostalgic depictions of Belle Époque Paris. Following his artistic training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes and later in Paris, Blanchard developed a profound admiration for the classic Parisian street scenes popularized by masters like Eugène Galien-Laloue and Édouard Cortès. His masterful use of light and color allowed him to capture the unique atmosphere of the French capital, often romanticizing its bustling boulevards, historic monuments, and elegant pedestrians during rain-swept afternoons or snowy winter twilight.

Blanchard’s signature style features delicate brushwork and a luminous palette that instantly transports the viewer back to the turn-of-the-century charm of Paris. Throughout his career, he achieved immense international popularity, particularly among collectors who sought the timeless elegance of French impressionistic urban landscapes. Today, his paintings remain highly sought after in the global art market, cherished for their historical romance, architectural precision, and the enduring, poetic spirit of historical Paris they so beautifully preserve.
