Hannah Swain
Hannah Swain is a British artist based in north London. The daughter and granddaughter of artists, she grew up watching her father at work in his studio and drew her first angel at the age of five; angels have remained the heart of her work ever since, drawn from imagination rather than from models.
She works in drawing, painting and printmaking. Her limited-edition lithographs and hand-coloured etchings of the 1990s, among them ‘Gilding The Lily’ (1998), stage processions of mermaids, jesters, cherubs and striped and spotted animals under suns and moons, in dense line and saturated colour. Her drawings were shown in ‘The Inner Self: Drawings from the Subconscious’ at CGP London in 2014, and her work is championed by the charity Outside In.
